BVI (British Virgin Islands)

Rent your sailing or motor yacht in the BVI and enjoy the trade winds and short sailings!

You sailed too much in the West Indies? go to the north to discover the sailing holidays in the BVI (British Virgin Islands) with your luxury yacht charter.

One year after the devastating hurricane Irma hit the British Virgin Islands (BVI), we've returned to the area to take stock of the situation and to help you discover this magnificent sailing area by offering you the best partners for chartering your sailing or motor yacht in the BVI.

The Baths

Located southwest of Virgin Gorda, The Baths nature park is the place to be on your luxury BVI cruise. You can take a buoy right in front of the park (for the day only) and dinghy over.

Swimming is very pleasant between the magnificent granite rocks, reminiscent of the Seychelles, and the walk through the caves is superb, especially at the end of the day when the sun turns the rocks red. A pair of dolphins have chosen this spot to raise their young, a spectacle to be discovered while snorkeling just two fathoms from the moored yachts.

The Baths

Oil nut bay

Less than 10 miles north along Virgin Gorda, we recommend a day's stopover at Oil Nut Bay Marina, with its swimming pool, restaurant and stores. Make a reservation at the Oil Nut Bay Resort (+1 284 393 1000) and the friendly staff of this luxury hotel will collect you from your private yacht by golf cart or speedboat. Enjoy the beautiful bay, the beach and all the hotel's facilities, including its three swimming pools. Don't hesitate to pay a visit to the turtles, rays and small sharks that occupy the swimming area of this bay, perfectly protected by a coral reef, just across from Richard Branson's Necker Island (superb to visit with a local guide).

Anegada

From here, you are only a dozen miles from Anegada that you will easily reach by a nice crosswind navigation. This island of a hundred square kilometers is famous for its underwater life, its kitesurfing beach next to the most beautiful hotel on the island (Anegada Beach Club). We advise you to rent a car to go around the island, enjoy the lobster (local specialty), see flamingos at the twin Flamingo Pond, admire the sunset at the Cow Wreck beach bar or get up at Loblolly High Point.

Jost Van Dyke

From Anegada, head south-west for a beautiful windward/leeward sail to Jost Van Dyke. Aboard your luxury yacht, admire Monkey Point to the south of Guana Island, then anchor along the pretty beach of Cane Garden Bay. From here, you're 30 minutes from the tiny island of Sandy Spit, which will remind you of Morpion in the Grenadines. Then continue due west to White Bay on Jost Van Dyke, taking care to aim for the entrance to the reef-protected pass. Pick up a buoy or drop anchor right in front of the famous Soggy Dollar bar, which will keep you going from happy hour until late at night. Unless, of course, you'd prefer a guitar concert by Foxy, the island's friendly patriarch, whom you'll find on Great Harbour.

Norman, Pitter and Copper Island

Norman Island is famous for its caves on its west coast and its well protected anchorage (The Bight) at the bottom of which is the cozy restaurant The Pirate Bight. Arriving by Tortola, stop at The Indians near Pelican Island, a place famous for its turtles who spend the night there (to admire in snorkeling or scuba diving, attention to the current). On the island of Pitter, you will anchor or take a buoy at Great Harbor before taking an aperitif at the famous Willy T...

And last but not least, Cooper Island boasts a magnificent complex (restaurant, hotel, shops), developed on a responsible model while being 100% energy independent. In the center of the BVI, the island of Tortola is of little interest other than to pick up or drop off your sailing or motor yacht. We recommend the marinas of Nanny Cay (Peg Legs restaurant with swimming pool and pretty beach, good store to restock, chipchandler), or Road Town for provisioning.

Winds

The trade winds regularly blow from east to west from November to April (high season) then more moderately from May to July. The navigation is very pleasant between the islands given the regular trade winds and the calm sea. Be careful to follow the evolution of the weather during the hurricane season (July to November).

Temperature

The climate of the British Virgin Islands is tropical, warm but pleasant all year thanks to the presence of the trade winds. During the high season (November to April) average temperatures are around 25 degrees. The low season (May to October) is characterized by warmer and wetter temperatures, around 28 degrees.
